The badge

What the ESSA25 badge shows

Our logo features the consortium of Lepidopteran pests of economic importance in maize, and the internal feeding pests (fruit fly and false codling moth) of phytosanitary importance on citrus. These insects show the size of the challenges faced by farmers growing maize and citrus in Mpumalanga, where both crops are predominant.

The emperor moth, Gonimbrasia belina, commonly known as the mopane worm or mopane moth, is also part of the logo because of its contribution to food security and its importance as a vital source of essential proteins across the region.
